Green Energy on Earth Day

Posted on Tue, 04/20/2010 - 22:54

Tomorrow is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day so I thought we should talk a little about  Green Energy.  That’s the big topic these days – green energy. Well, you know, the original green energy actually began in the produce department - with fresh herbs. One of the very first things that the early colonists did when they arrived here to the New World...they first planted fresh herbs. There are actually two reasons why the Pilgrims would get fresh Herbs into the ground right away.  Number one, there are minerals and antioxidants in fresh herbs that literally boost your energy. They needed energy in the hard struggle to live and survive. Number two, it flavored a lot of their dishes. They didn’t know what kind of food they would find here, but they knew they needed flavor for whatever food they found here. The best flavor for our recipes...fresh Herbs. Today we unfortunately use a lot more salt to flavor our food.  That's really not a great idea. We’ve got to stop using so much salt, and the way to do that? Put more flavor into your food by using fresh herbs. Let's get some Green Energy for Earth Day.  Try some fresh Herbs.
